 Audience

T&F: Who are you speaking for, and who are you
speaking to?

D: The work is intended to speak for those who are made vulnerable to violence in personal, immediate ways and examines who has the power to enact violence on a global, abstract scale.

I anticipate different audiences engaging the work.

Affected communities are the most complex and ethically vital audience. For a resident who has lost someone to violence, the book could be a profound validation or a painful trigger. It says, "Your loss is not invisible; it is part of a larger pattern that I am trying to understand." It could feel like witnessing or exploitation. There is no single response. For an employee of the labs, the book could be an infuriating oversimplification or a startling, uncomfortable mirror. For neutral viewers, it could be a revelation of connections they have felt intuitively. It names a haunting, a moral injury that they may recognize but cannot articulate.
